WCEET – Fifth Anniversary Celebration

On the 14th October at an afternoon function held in Hamilton, the Trust celebrated 5 years of funding projects in the Waikato Catchment. 

Guests from throughout the Catchment including local Iwi, Local and Regional Councils, conservation and wetland enthusiasts, representatives from the organisations who have received funding and founding organisations were welcomed by Tainui’s Gannin Ormsbyand Trust Chair Gwyneth Verkerk.  Gwyneth provided an outline of the Trust’s vision and objectives, success’s to date and hopes for the Trust’s future.

Special Guest speaker, renowned ecologist Bruce Clarkson outlined his life’s work involving natural forest chronosequence and how principles of studying environmental change can be applied to improve species biodiversity in the Waikato Region.

The afternoon was a great chance to celebrate the Trust’s successes, primarily 89 projects and $2 million committed to enhancements in the Waikato Catchment. 

The 2010 funding round was officially opened by Chair Gwyneth Verkerk and the Trust looks forward to receiving and reviewing applications which close on 31 January 2010.
